Pender County Schools are reporting a sudden rise in the number of sick students. They are being diagnosed with various communicable diseases, such as Flu, Pertussis, and strep throat.
Pender County Health Department Recommends:
If you feel your child may have Flu or Pertussis, or any other contagious illness, please call your doctor. If you do not have a doctor, you may call the Pender County Health Department at (910) 259-1230.
Once returning from the holiday break…
1. If your child is sick, keep your child home from school. Call and report any suspected or diagnosed illness to your School Nurse.
2. If your child has been diagnosed with the flu, please notify your School Nurse and keep them home until their fever has been gone for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medicine, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
3. If your child has been tested for Pertussis, they MUST stay home until they complete their prescription medicine or receive a negative test result.
