Second Life is an online, multi-user virtual environment.  it's a virtual world that's always on and being used by thousands of people from all around the world at any given time.  It's a great way to conduct online meetings and presentations and an excellent way to connect with educators globally.

     Pender County Schools has an island in Second Life for conducting online meetings and staff development as well as for providing our educators with an opportunity to experience an immersive, 3D environment similar to what our students experience on a daily basis.

     The program is free and can be downloaded at: http://www.secondlife.com.  Be sure your home computer meets the minimum system requirements.  Also note that the Main Grid in Second Life is for adults.  We are currently exploring an option for teacher/student projects in Reaction Grid (a similar platform for education).
